Welcome to Leyburn State School’s website.
Our school is one of the oldest schools in Queensland. In 2012, we celebrated 150 years of serving the local community and surrounds. Leyburn State School commenced operation in 1862 and although many improvements have been made throughout the years, our historic play shed continues to remain in existence and is used daily by the students of today. One of the improvements made, has been the inclusion of a swimming pool which is used on a regular basis throughout Term One and Term Four.
Staff members at our school strive to support all students and their learning. All staff members are approachable and supportive of parental and community involvement within the school.
Our school motto “We grow with pride” is reflected in the ethos of the school staff and students alike. Students are continually encouraged to try their best and challenge their own academic results, efforts and behaviours.
As we are a small rural school there are generally two teachers based at the school on a permanent basis. There are also several contract and itinerant teachers and many departmental staff such as Guidance Officers and Speech Language Pathologists, who service our school regularly. Teacher aides support the teacher/s as well as assist with the implementation of intervention programs and are present within the classroom daily.
At Leyburn State School, we are committed to helping children develop knowledge and skills required for them to participate fully as an active and informed citizen of the future. Along with this, children are encouraged to display positive attitudes to academic, social and behavioural learning to enhance their own personal development.
